Feng Shui In My Home Office

Saturday April 22, 2006
I'm attempting to Feng Shui my home office. I don't know a lot about Feng Shui, put I've recently been reading up on the Black Hat School of Feng Shui. I discovered that I had some very bad Feng Shui happening in my work space. For example, my wastebasket was sitting smack in the middle of the fame sector, and the paper shredder was plugged in at the creativity sector. Not Good! Discarding my acheivements and tearing my creativity into bits and pieces is definitely negative chi.

I suppose some people feel that Feng Shui is superstitious, but now that I'm learning some Feng Shui fundamentals I simply cannot leave certain things in the same place as they were before. A red candle in the relationship sector can ignite passion, but it can also flare up sparks of anger which can bring about bickering or arguments. Better to put the candle in the fame sector to fire up some personal recognition. What I like most about the art of Feng Shui is that it is based on the power of intention. I DO believe in the power of our thoughts. Another element of Feng Shui that interests me is symbolism.

I also discovered that my knowledge sector is located to the left as I enter the office. This is where I have my bulletin board hanging on the wall. The board was filled with paper clutter. It was crammed with layers of miscellaneous papers that I tacked up there temporarily so I wouldn't misplace them (coupons, appointment reminders, gift receipts, etc). But then, of course, I would forget them anyway. I've cleaned up that clutter mess now. Clutter anywhere is bad chi, but you certainly don't want it in the knowledge sector as it will clutter the mind.

Oh fun! I also found out that the tall bookcase positioned beside my computer desk in Feng Shui is considered to be a tower. Towers are not well-placed if they are facing you because they can overwhelm you. Towers can make a person feel small and insignificant. Kinda like you have a disapproving parent looking down on you all the time. My towering bookcase is down now, I've flipped it on its side (see photo below) and it is now positioned behind me. The top of it now serves as a display area for my fame and wealth sectors.

My husband thinks placing a bookcase on its side looks ridiculous, but I think the room's energy feels better. I'm also feeling bigger and more important somehow. If nothing else, I'm getting my room clean. A clean and uncluttered room is very good Feng Shui!

I also noticed that today in Debbie DeSpirt's blog (Debbie is our About Guide to Feng Shui) that she suggests Computer Spring Cleaning. My job of clearing my office of bad chi is not done yet...

The placement of a statue of Amitabah (Meditation Buddha) can be used in Feng Shui as a remedy for areas of lost chi.
